Bloomers! Backyard FAQ
What Is Bloomers! Backyard?
Kid’s gardening products. We started with the Bloomers! Backyard Garden and a lot of fun extras to get your child excited about going outside and digging in the dirt!
What is the time commitment involved with starting a backyard garden?
As little as 30 minutes a week. But with the Garden Guidebook – 170 pages of fun, integrated activities – your child’s experience will be enhanced with additional science, outdoor, literacy, gardening, technology and healthy eating activities that can be incorporated on a daily basis. It’s up to you… you can spend as much or as little time as you’d like. How big is a Backyard Garden? Where should I place my Backyard Garden?
The Backyard Garden is 23″ long x 7 ¼” high x 9 ½” wide/deep. Holds 1 cu. ft. of growing media. Reservoir holds 1.15 gallons of water. The ideal location for your garden is on a south-facing wall or fence — one that isn’t obstructed by the shadow of another building.
What plants can I grow in my climate?
Plants are plants. If they can grow in a pot, they can grow better in a Bloomers! Backyard Garden. To find out what plants will grow in your climate please refer to the USDA hardiness zone to locate your climate zone. What sun exposure is best? Your BLOOMERS! Backyard Garden will grow best in 6–10 hours of sunlight per day depending on the vegetable. If you have fewer than six hours of sun available, then you might consider growing mostly herbs, greens (like lettuces and spinach) and partial-shade-loving flowers.
How do I Water the Backyard Garden?
How much water do we need to fill the schoolyard reservoir? Your Bloomers! Backyard Garden needs water to keep your plants alive and growing. The Garden holds about 1.15 gallons of water and we suggest a water pitcher, measuring cup or water bottle to fill it. Also remember when watering the garden to pour the water down the watering pipe. Once the garden has enough water it will spill out of the overflow spout on the side. It is impossible to overwater the garden. You can also purchase our children’s watering can in the Know + Grow store to help you successfully water the garden. Note: if your garden is inside, place the plastic dish under the overflow spout so water will not spill out into your house. KNOW: Bloomers! Garden Guidebook
